Africa Initiative Graduate Research Grant

The Africa Initiative Graduate Research Grant supports Indian students enrolled in Master’s or PhD programs at select African universities to conduct short-term research placements at Canadian institutions. The grant covers full tuition and living expenses for up to four months of research in thematic areas such as conflict resolution, energy, food security, health, migration, and climate change. It is designed for graduate researchers seeking international academic exposure and collaboration opportunities in these fields.

Open to Indian students currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program at recognized African universities. Applicants must be from specified African countries including Botswana, South Africa, Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, Egypt, Benin, Senegal, Morocco, and Nigeria. There are no additional income or mark-based conditions; selection is based on academic merit and alignment with the program’s research themes.

Submit an application through the official portal listed by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the Ministry of Education, Government of India. Include a research proposal, academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, and proof of enrollment. Ensure all documents are attested and submitted before the deadline of March 31, 2026.

Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
