GRE
Graduate Record Examination
About the GRE
The GRE general test is delivered as a computer-based examination at test centres and, where offered, at home under remote proctoring, and it consists of Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning and Analytical Writing sections. Verbal Reasoning covers reading comprehension, text completion and sentence equivalence; Quantitative Reasoning covers arithmetic, algebra, geometry and data analysis at a level below advanced university mathematics, with an on-screen calculator provided; and Analytical Writing requires a written response assessing an issue or argument. The scoring scales, section lengths, total testing time and score reporting rules are published by ETS.
Engineering and science applicants take the same general test as everyone else. Scores are accepted by graduate schools and some business schools worldwide, remain valid for the period stated by ETS, and can be sent to institutions the candidate selects.
