History
Bishop’s University was founded in 1843 by an Act of the Canadian Parliament and is located in Quebec, Canada. Rev. Jasper H. Nicolls was appointed as the first Principal of Bishop’s College in 1845. The University gained its title of a University in 1853. In 1846, Bishop’s University created its first college building today known as McGreer Hall in remembrance and honor of Rev. A.H. McGreer who was the principal of the University till 1947. In 1855, Bishop’s College hosted its first convocation. The University faced a major drawback when a fire destroyed the interior of the building in 1875 however, Bishop’s College soon recovered from the loss that underwent during the fire and completed the reconstruction of the building by 1878. Over the years the university continued to expand and introduce new programs and achievements. The university celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2003 since the signing of the charter in 1853.
