Cape Breton University History

CBU was first founded as the Xavier Junior College in 1951 under the St. Francis Xavier University. and later in 1968, the Nova Scotia Institute of Technology had been opened on the Sydney-Glace Bay Highway that is located on the East Side of Sydney.

The College of Cape Breton was later established on Jun 28, 1974 which had combined the Sydney campus of St. Francis Xavier University and NSEIT into a post-secondary institution under the Board of Governors. The University College of Cape Breton had finally gained its university status in June 1982. By Feb 25, 2005, the university was renamed to be known as Cape Breton University.
