At Eastern Michigan University, the minimum GPA required for international students is 2 on a scale of 4. The students who have scored a GPA of 2.75 or higher need not submit standardized test scores. Applicants who score a GPA between 2.5 and 2.74, are required to submit an academic history, and standardized test score and their application will be reviewed by the university. However, the average students taking Eastern Michigan University admissions scored a 3.28 GPA in their high school.

International students with F-1 and J-1 visas can apply for part-time on-campus jobs. Students can work up to 20 hours per week during the winter and fall terms, while they can work up to 29 hours per week during the summer term. The following conditions should be met for on-campus jobs:

• Students must have good academic grades and be enrolled in a full-time program.
• Students must not be approaching the end of their programs.
• Students with a J-1 visa can seek permission to work on-campus from OISS and the concerned officer.

Eastern Michigan University charges no application fee from international students. However, to get a place at Eastern Michigan, students must fulfill the eligibility requirements such as scoring a good GPA, standardized test scores, and English language requirements. Applicants need to follow a simple procedure to apply at Eastern Michigan University.

• Submit an Application via GradCAS. 
• Submit Official Documents. EMU requires ALL post secondary coursework that has been completed outside the U.S. to be evaluated by one of the four approved evaluation agencies 
• Submit English Proficiency. Test scores are only valid for 2 years from the date of the application. 
• Submit Remaining Application Documents.
• Submit Financial Documentation for the I-20 Process.

• Eastern Michigan University will only accept bank statements with liquid funds, acceptable bank statements must include the following information to be accepted:

  1. Statement Date (No more than a year old from the time of programme start date)
  2. Name of the bank on letterhead or bank seal with signatures
  3. Account Holder
  4. Account Type (Checking, Savings, Current, Private, etc.)
  5. Type of Currency
  6. For Fixed/Term Deposits, statement must list maturity date (must be BEFORE the intended programme start date) or that the funds are able to be withdrawn without penalty
  7. All statements must be in English.

Deparmental Scholarship

Award amounts vary and selections can be based on need, academic merit, as well as representative talent within corresponding department or major. 

External Scholarship

External scholarships are available to students from organizations and agencies outside the University. We encourage students to avoid search services that charge a fee.

4ward Admission Scholarship

Available to incoming first-year students admitted Fall 2019 or later.

Presidential Scholarship

Awarded to the students who maintains a cumulative EMU GPA of 3.3 or higher.

Undergraduate Scholarships

Undergraduate applicants can apply for merit-based scholarships offered on the basis of GPA and application materials. Up to 100% of the tuition fees can be covered by these scholarships.

Freshman applicants with a GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 US scale may receive the NSP (National Scholarship Program).

It comes with an award of USD 17,181, which is the difference between the tuition fees of domestic and international students. The award can be renewed for up to 4 years.

Graduate Scholarships

Graduate applicants with a GPA (undergraduate) of 3.6 and those who do not have a master’s degree might receive the NSP scholarship.

For this, no separate application is required, as application forms submitted during admission are reviewed to select deserving students.

Graduates who do not qualify for the NSP and have a GPA of 3.2 or higher can get the SUCG (Student Success Program) scholarships. It offers an award of USD 3,100 annually for two years.
