History
Hofstra University was founded in 1935. It began as an extension of New York University (NYU) under the name, Nassau College – Hofstra Memorial of New York University. Its official name was changed to Hofstra College in 1937. The college separated from New York University in 1939 and was granted a charter in 1940.
