Purdue University Northwest has two campuses located in Hammond and Westville and have been creating history since the year 1946. Some of the credit courses at Purdue University were introduced on Feb 25, 1946 with classes being held in different regions. The Hammond campus had been redefined as a regional campus later in the year 1962. The Student Faculty Library Center was later opened in 1971 and is also known as the Student Union and Library.

By the year 1979, the Hammond Campus of Purdue University Northwest has become recognized as a regional university and named as Purdue University Calumet.
