Barnes & Noble College serves as the university’s official provider of course materials. Faculty are strongly encouraged to submit their course material adoptions—or confirm that no materials are needed—by the published deadlines to help ensure timely coordination with publishers and procurement processes.
Timely submission of book orders facilitates the university’s requirement to adhere to the Higher Education Act (HEA). This Act requires that students are provided with an estimated cost of attendance, which includes tuition and fees, room and board, books, course materials, supplies, equipment, transportation, and other personal expenses.
While faculty are encouraged to explore options with publishers, the inclusion of direct order links in course syllabi violates our agreement with the bookstore. The bookstore is committed to supporting faculty in their academic freedom and will collaborate to identify solutions that meet instructional needs while also ensuring access for students who rely on financial aid to purchase course materials.

The Faculty Search Committee and/or Academic Department may adjust these guidelines within the individual Colleges, in consultation with the Dean's Office, to fit the needs of the specific discipline and College.
