SBU's international students are eligible for Global Excellence Scholarship offered by Stony Brook University. This is given to those students who show exceptional performance in - high school academic program, SAT/ACT scores, co-curricular activities, research experiences, or even special talents or skills portrayal. According to the university, around 78% of freshmen enrolled in a full time course received financial aid at an average of USD 13,100. There are also 71% of full time freshmen students who receive an average amount of USD 10,200 as federal or state level grant.

Stony Brook welcomes international students having intercultural understanding. The university also offers scholarships to such students. It has a vision to encourage intercultural understanding by selecting amongst first-year international students. The selected students will be offered an annual, renewable scholarship to cover 50% of their tuition fees.

A minimum grade point average of 3.0 in previous coursework. A GPA below 3.0 may, in extreme circumstances, be taken into consideration for "conditional admission" to the College of Business. Conditionally admitted students who wish to continue in the programme must earn a 3.0 GPA during their first semester.

The MS in Data Science programme consists of 36 credits (12 courses), including 10 core courses and 2 electives. Students are required to finish their MS programme in three to four semesters.
