Texas Tech University History

Texas Tech was created by legislative action in 1923. It holds the distinction of being the largest comprehensive higher education institution in the western two-thirds of Texas. It began as the Texas Technological College in 1925, with 6 buildings and welcomed 914 students in its first batch.
