Toronto Metropolitan University History
The Toronto Metropolita Univeristy first opened its doors in 1948, welcoming around 225 students, offering them a few trade courses. The institute started under the name: Ryerson Institute of Technology on the site of the Toronto Normal School, which happened to be Ontario's first teacher training college. The institute continued to grow over the course of the 20th century, & attained university status in 1993. Earlier TMU was names Ryerson Institute of Technology. However, in order to reflect Ryerson’s emergence as a full-fledged university, the Provincial government approved the new name of Ryerson University. In 2022, the University was renamed to Toronto Metropolitan University
