Bond University History
On 3rd July 1986, a leading businessman, Alan Bond, declared his plan to establish the first private and fully independent university of Australia at Burleigh Forest. The Queensland government passed the Bond University Act and granted Bond University the status of an independent tertiary institution on 23rd April 1987.
The student enrollment at Bond University had later increased to more than 1,000 in the year 1991 and in 1992, Marcia Sullivan had become the first Indigenous Scholarship Graduate at the university. By the year 2000, Bond University was known to have more than 5,000 alumni graduates and the student enrollment was over 2,000.
