History

The University of Tokyo was founded after the Tokyo Kaisei School & the Tokyo Medical School came together in 1877, which led to the creation of the four Faculties of Law, Science, Medicine & Letters, which subsequently led to the formation of the University of Tokyo.

Post that, UTokyo continued to expand its network by getting involved in several mergers with different schools offering different specialisations, including the Tokyo School of Agriculture & Forestry as well as the Imperial College of Engineering, which led the institute to become a comprehensive research university.
